Sin is not merely a mistake, weakness, or social problem. Scripture describes sin as rebellion against the holy God. It touches our thoughts, desires, motives, words, and actions. Sin is serious because God is holy, and His standard is not human opinion but His own righteous character. The Bible teaches that all people have sinned and fall short of God’s glory. That means our deepest problem is not lack of education, money, therapy, or opportunity. Our deepest problem is separation from God. The good news is that Jesus Christ came to save sinners. Christians must never minimize sin, but neither should they despair when Christ is offered freely in the Gospel.
