Eternal Life with Jesus

Eternal Life with Jesus

Primary Scripture: John 14:1–3 (LSB)

“Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.”

There is one promise that gives Christians hope in every season of life.

A promise that comforts us in grief.

Strengthens us in suffering.

And reminds us that this broken world is not our final home.

Jesus promised that one day every believer will be with Him forever.

For those who have trusted in Christ, death is not the end of the story—it is the doorway into eternal life.

Because Jesus conquered the grave, His people never have to fear what lies beyond it.

Heaven Is About Jesus

When many people think about heaven, they imagine streets of gold, gates of pearl, angels singing, or reunions with loved ones.

The Bible certainly describes the beauty and glory of God’s eternal kingdom.

But the greatest joy of heaven is not the place.

It is the Person.

Jesus told His disciples,

“…I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.”

Notice His emphasis.

He didn’t simply promise a beautiful destination.

He promised His presence.

For all eternity, believers will see the Savior who redeemed them.

The One they have worshiped by faith…

They will finally see face to face.

Every Tear Will Be Gone

Life in this world includes pain.

Heartbreak.

Disappointment.

Disease.

Persecution.

Funerals.

Broken relationships.

Every believer carries scars from living in a fallen world.

But Revelation 21 gives us an incredible promise:

“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and death will be no more; no longer will there be any mourning, or crying, or pain…”
— Revelation 21:4

Imagine a world without hospitals.

Without cemeteries.

Without cancer.

Without anxiety.

Without temptation.

Without sin.

Without death.

That is the inheritance awaiting every child of God.

Our Future Is Secure

The certainty of heaven is not based on our goodness.

It rests entirely on the finished work of Jesus Christ.

Through His perfect life…

His sacrificial death…

And His victorious resurrection…

Christ secured eternal life for all who repent of their sins and trust in Him.

Our hope is not wishful thinking.

It is God’s promise.

Jesus said,

“Because I live, you also will live.”
— John 14:19

No earthly circumstance can cancel that promise.

No hardship can erase it.

No power can take it away.

Our future is secure because Christ lives forever.

Live Today for Eternity

Knowing what awaits us changes how we live today.

We hold earthly possessions loosely.

We forgive more quickly.

We endure suffering with hope.

We boldly share the gospel.

We invest in what will last forever.

Every act of faithfulness becomes preparation for the day we stand before Christ.

The Christian life is not simply about surviving this world.

It is about joyfully anticipating the next.

Every sunrise brings us one day closer to seeing our Savior.

Today’s Challenge

Spend a few quiet moments today thanking Jesus for the promise of eternal life.

Read John 14 and Revelation 21.

Then ask yourself:

Am I living as someone whose true home is in heaven?

Allow the certainty of eternity to shape your priorities, your conversations, and your hope.

Remember…

This world is not your home.

Jesus has prepared a place for you.

One day your faith will become sight.

One day every struggle will end.

One day you will stand in the presence of the King who loved you enough to die for you.

Until that glorious day…

Walk faithfully.

Love deeply.

Serve joyfully.

Keep your eyes on Jesus.

And whatever today brings…

Finish the Race.
