There is a moment in every race when the runner stops thinking about where they started and fixes every ounce of attention on where they are going. That is exactly what Paul invites us to do in today's verse.
The phrase 'new creature' isn't a gentle upgrade — it's a declaration of transformation at the deepest level. Paul isn't saying your old habits got a little better or your past mistakes were filed away in some divine cabinet. He's saying that in Christ, you are fundamentally, essentially, gloriously new. The old self — with its shame, its patterns, its broken identity — has passed away like a season that cannot return.
That word 'behold' is an invitation to actually stop and look. Behold. Don't rush past it. God is saying: pay attention to what I have done in you. When we are tempted to rehearse old failures or drag yesterday's guilt into today's race, this verse is a firm and loving hand on our shoulder, turning us back toward the truth of who we now are.
Finishing the race well begins with running as the person God has already made you — not the person you used to be. Every step forward is taken by a new creature, carrying new hope, fueled by the same Spirit who raised Christ from the dead.

Take It With You
Today, when an old shame or habit whispers that nothing has really changed, speak this verse out loud as an act of faith. Run today's leg of the race as the new creation you truly are in Christ.
