Why Do Christians Need Spiritual Discipline?

The Christian life is not powered by willpower alone, but neither is it passive. God grows His people through ordinary means: Scripture, prayer, worship, fellowship, confession, service, and obedience. Spiritual disciplines are not legalistic when they flow from grace and are directed toward knowing Christ. They help believers resist drift. Without intentional habits, Christians often become spiritually weak, distracted, and shaped by the world. Discipline is not the enemy of grace. Biblical discipline is grace-trained obedience. A runner does not finish the race by accident, and a Christian does not mature by drifting.
