Jesus Is Lord
Primary Scripture: Philippians 2:9–11 (LSB)
“For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

The most important question anyone will ever answer is not, “Do you believe Jesus existed?”
History has already answered that.
It is not, “Was Jesus a good teacher?”
Even many who reject Christianity acknowledge His profound influence on the world.
The question that changes everything is this:
Is Jesus Christ your Lord?
The New Testament consistently presents Jesus as far more than a moral teacher, miracle worker, or even a Savior from sin. He is the risen King of kings and Lord of lords, reigning over all creation with absolute authority.
Recognizing His lordship is not merely an intellectual exercise. It transforms how we live, worship, work, parent, serve, and make every decision.
Jesus Is More Than a Savior
Many people are willing to accept Jesus as Savior because they want forgiveness and the hope of heaven.
But they hesitate when it comes to His lordship.
Forgiveness without submission.
Salvation without obedience.
Grace without surrender.
The Bible never separates these truths.
Romans 10:9 declares:
“If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Saving faith is more than agreeing with certain facts about Jesus. It is trusting Him completely and joyfully submitting to His authority.
Jesus Himself asked a searching question:
“Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?”
— Luke 6:46
Those words remind us that genuine faith produces a life of growing obedience. We are not saved by our works, but those who have truly been saved are progressively transformed by the Holy Spirit.
Jesus Reigns Over Everything
After His resurrection, Jesus declared:
“All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.”
— Matthew 28:18
There is no corner of creation outside His rule.
He reigns over kings and presidents.
He reigns over nations and governments.
He reigns over history, nature, and every human heart.
Colossians 1 tells us that all things were created through Him and for Him, and that in Him all things hold together.
Nothing catches Him by surprise.
Nothing frustrates His eternal purposes.
When life feels uncertain, Christians find peace not because circumstances are easy, but because Christ is still on the throne.
His Lordship Changes Everyday Life
Acknowledging Jesus as Lord is not simply something we confess on Sunday morning.
It shapes every area of our lives.
If Jesus is Lord…
We forgive those who have wronged us.
We honor Him in our marriages.
We raise our children according to His Word.
We pursue holiness rather than worldly compromise.
We speak truth with love.
We work with integrity.
We care for the poor.
We proclaim the gospel.
We trust Him when life is difficult.
His authority reaches into our homes, workplaces, finances, relationships, priorities, and future.
Following Jesus means continually asking, “Lord, what would You have me do?”
Every Knee Will Bow
One day, every person who has ever lived will stand before Jesus Christ.
Some will bow with overwhelming joy because they have already trusted Him as Savior and Lord.
Others will bow in acknowledgment of His authority after spending a lifetime rejecting Him.
Philippians tells us that every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
No one will ultimately deny His reign.
The only question is whether we acknowledge His lordship today through faith or wait until the final judgment when His authority is undeniable.
Today is the day to respond to His invitation.
The Lord Who Loves His People
The beauty of the gospel is that the One who rules the universe is also the One who laid down His life for sinners.
Jesus did not become Lord because He conquered by force.
He humbled Himself.
He took on human flesh.
He endured rejection.
He carried the cross.
He bore God’s wrath in the place of all who trust in Him.
He rose victorious over sin and death.
The King of kings is also the Good Shepherd.
His commands are not burdensome because they come from a Savior who perfectly loves His people.
Submitting to Christ is not losing freedom—it is discovering the freedom we were created to enjoy.
Today’s Challenge
Take a few quiet moments today and ask yourself:
- Is there any area of my life that I have not surrendered to Christ?
- Do my priorities reflect that Jesus truly is Lord?
- Is my obedience driven by love for Him or merely by habit?
Spend time in prayer, thanking Jesus for His grace and asking Him to rule every part of your life with His wisdom, truth, and love.
There is no safer place than under the authority of the King who gave His life for you.
Remember…
Jesus Christ is not only your Savior.
He is your Lord.
Follow Him wholeheartedly.
Trust Him completely.
Obey Him joyfully.
Worship Him faithfully.
And whatever today brings…
