Waiting is one of the hardest parts of the Christian life.
We pray.
We hope.
We trust.
And then…
We wait.
Perhaps you’re waiting for a prodigal child to return home.
A doctor’s report.
A new job.
Healing.
A restored marriage.
Financial provision.
Or simply an answer to a prayer you’ve been praying for months—or even years.
If so, you’re not alone.
Nearly every major figure in Scripture experienced seasons of waiting.
Abraham waited decades for the promised son.
Joseph waited through years of slavery and imprisonment before God elevated him to leadership.
David was anointed king long before he ever wore the crown.
Even the disciples waited after Christ’s ascension before the Holy Spirit came as Jesus had promised.
Waiting has always been part of God’s work.
Yet our culture teaches us the opposite.
We expect instant answers.
Fast shipping.
Immediate downloads.
Quick solutions.
When God doesn’t move according to our timetable, we may wonder if He has forgotten us.
But Scripture reminds us that God’s delays are never accidental.
His timing is always perfect.
He sees the beginning from the end.
He knows what we cannot see.
And He is working in ways that often remain hidden until much later.
The prophet Isaiah reminds God’s people that the Lord never grows weary.
His understanding is beyond measure.
He strengthens those who wait upon Him.
Do you not know? Have you not heard?
The Everlasting God, Yahweh, the Creator of the ends of the earth,
Does not become weary or tired.
His understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the weary,
And to him who lacks vigor He increases might.
Though youths grow weary and tired,
And choice young men stumble badly,
Yet those who hope in Yahweh
Will gain new power;
They will mount up with wings like eagles;
They will run and not get tired;
They will walk and not become weary. (Isaiah 40:28–31)
Notice that God doesn’t simply promise answers.
He promises Himself.
He promises strength.
Renewal.
Endurance.
Sometimes God changes our circumstances.
Other times He changes us while we wait.
Looking back, many Christians discover that the season they would never have chosen became the season that shaped them most deeply.
Waiting teaches patience.
Dependence.
Humility.
Perseverance.
It strips away self-reliance and reminds us that our hope is never found in circumstances but in Christ alone.
That doesn’t mean waiting is easy.
The Psalms are filled with honest cries of God’s people asking, “How long, O Lord?”
God is not offended by sincere questions.
He welcomes His children to bring every burden before Him.
Waiting is not passive.
It is active trust.
We continue praying.
Continue obeying.
Continue serving.
Continue worshiping.
Continue believing that God is faithful even when we cannot yet see His hand at work.
Seeds spend a long time beneath the soil before anyone sees growth above the surface.
Roots develop long before fruit appears.
God often works the same way in our lives.
What seems like silence may actually be preparation.
What feels like delay may actually be mercy.
What appears to be inactivity may be God’s perfect timing unfolding exactly as He intended.
If you find yourself in a season of waiting today, don’t lose heart.
The God who was faithful yesterday will be faithful tomorrow.
He has never abandoned His children.
His promises remain secure.
His love has not diminished.
His purposes cannot fail.
Your waiting is not wasted.
The Lord is accomplishing far more than you can presently imagine.
One day, you’ll look back and discover that while you were waiting on God…
God was faithfully working for you.
Prayer
Father, waiting is difficult, and I often want answers on my own timetable. Help me trust that Your plans are wiser than mine and Your timing is always perfect. Strengthen my faith while I wait, renew my hope, and remind me that You are always working—even when I cannot yet see it. Teach me to rest in Your promises and to remain faithful until Your perfect will is revealed. In Jesus’ name, amen.
