New Every Morning

There are mornings when I wake up carrying the weight of yesterday — mistakes I've made, worries that followed me into sleep, a weariness that feels older than the night. If you've had one of those mornings recently, this verse is a gift waiting to be unwrapped with you today.

— Eric

“It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”
Lamentations 3:22-23 (NASB)

Lamentations is not a cheerful book. It was written in the ashes of Jerusalem's destruction, by a man who had watched everything collapse around him. That makes these two verses all the more breathtaking. Right in the middle of grief and ruin, the writer lifts his eyes and declares something astonishing: we are not consumed. Not because of our strength or our goodness, but because of the Lord's mercies.

The word 'compassions' here carries the warmth of a mother's love for her child — a tender, visceral, unfailing care. And the promise is that these compassions do not fail. They don't run thin. They don't expire. They don't arrive late. Every single morning, the mercy of God is as full and fresh as it has ever been. Whatever yesterday held, this morning is a new ledger.

For those of us running the long race of faith, this truth is fuel. Endurance is not gritted teeth and white knuckles alone — it is returning, morning after morning, to a God whose faithfulness is great. His mercies are not a reward for good runners. They are the grace that keeps us running at all.

Take It With You

Before you check your phone or review your to-do list this morning, pause for sixty seconds and simply say: 'Thank You for Your mercy today.' Let gratitude be the first stride of the day.

Prayer: Lord, I receive Your new mercy this morning with an open hand — thank You that Your faithfulness is greater than my failures, and that Your compassion is the reason I can keep running. Amen.

1776 — A Daring Resolution for Freedom

In June 1776, Richard Henry Lee of Virginia formally introduced his resolution to the Second Continental Congress declaring that the American colonies ought to be free and independent states — a courageous act that set in motion one of history's most remarkable experiments in ordered liberty. The resolution reflected a deep conviction, shared by many of the founders, that human dignity and freedom were gifts from a Creator. It was a morning of bold faith in what could be, even when the outcome was far from certain.
