One Daily Habit That Can Strengthen Your Christian Marriage

One Daily Habit That Can Strengthen Your Christian Marriage

“Be subject to one another in the fear of Christ.” — Ephesians 5:21 (NASB)

Every Christian wants a strong marriage.

Yet strong marriages rarely happen by accident.

They are built one ordinary day at a time.

Hollywood tells us successful marriages are built on romance and feelings.

Scripture tells us they are built on covenant, sacrifice, humility, forgiveness, and Christ-centered love.

Every morning, husbands and wives wake up with a choice.

Will I serve myself today?

Or will I serve my spouse?

The Apostle Paul gives us one of the clearest pictures of biblical marriage in Ephesians 5. Husbands are called to love their wives just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her. That is sacrificial love. It is patient. It is humble. It puts another person’s needs ahead of its own.

Likewise, wives are called to respect and willingly support their husbands as they seek to lead their families under Christ’s authority. This mutual relationship reflects God’s good design and displays the beauty of the Gospel.

Marriage was never designed merely to make us happy.

It was designed to make us holy.

Living with another sinner exposes our own selfishness more quickly than almost anything else.

Marriage teaches patience.

Forgiveness.

Kindness.

Self-control.

Humility.

These are exactly the qualities the Holy Spirit is producing in every believer.

That means even the difficult moments in marriage can become opportunities for spiritual growth.

No marriage is perfect.

Every husband fails.

Every wife fails.

There will be misunderstandings.

There will be disagreements.

There will be moments when forgiveness must be extended again.

The question is not whether problems will come.

The question is how we will respond when they do.

Will we protect our pride?

Or protect our marriage?

Scripture repeatedly calls believers to forgive one another just as God has forgiven us in Christ.

Healthy marriages are filled with quick repentance and quick forgiveness.

Pride builds walls.

Humility builds bridges.

Remember something important this morning.

Your spouse is not your enemy.

You are fighting the same spiritual battle together.

Satan delights in division.

He wants resentment to grow.

He wants communication to stop.

He wants bitterness to replace grace.

Don’t give him that opportunity.

Pray together.

Read Scripture together.

Encourage one another.

Speak kindly.

Serve joyfully.

Laugh often.

Be quick to listen.

Slow to speak.

Slow to become angry.

These simple daily habits become the foundation of a marriage that glorifies Christ.

And don’t forget another truth we talk about every morning.

God’s mercies are new every morning.

Maybe yesterday wasn’t your best day as a husband.

Maybe yesterday wasn’t your best day as a wife.

Today is a new opportunity.

Apologize if necessary.

Forgive completely.

Start fresh.

God delights in restoring broken hearts that humble themselves before Him.

Remember who you are.

If you belong to Jesus Christ, you are first and foremost an adopted child of God.

Your identity is found in Christ—not in your spouse’s approval.

When both husband and wife find their deepest satisfaction in Christ, they become free to love each other more faithfully.

A healthy Christian marriage becomes one of the greatest testimonies to the Gospel.

The world sees forgiveness.

Grace.

Sacrifice.

Faithfulness.

And catches a glimpse of Christ’s love for His church.

Today, ask yourself one simple question.

How can I love my spouse more like Christ today?

Then do it.

One encouraging word.

One act of kindness.

One sincere apology.

One prayer together.

Small acts of faithfulness repeated every day build strong marriages over a lifetime.

Today’s Challenge

Before the day ends, intentionally bless your spouse.

Pray with them.

Encourage them.

Thank them for one specific thing.

Ask for forgiveness if you’ve wronged them.

Remember:

God’s mercies are new this morning.

Fight for your marriage—not against each other.

Love sacrificially.

Forgive quickly.

Glorify Christ together.

And whatever today brings…

Finish the Race.
