What would it look like if love had no limits? John 3:16 answers that question in a single, breathtaking sentence — and no matter how many times you have read it, it still has the power to stop you in your tracks.
There is a word in this verse that runners understand well: *gave*. Giving costs something. It requires sacrifice, effort, and willingness to part with something precious. God did not lend the world His Son, or loan Him out temporarily with no real risk. He gave — fully, finally, and at enormous cost. The gift was His only begotten Son, which means there was no backup plan, no second child to spare. This was everything.
That word *whosoever* is worth sitting with today. It draws a circle wide enough to include every person who has ever doubted they were loved enough, good enough, or far enough along in the race to qualify. The invitation is not for the spiritually elite. It is for the weary, the wandering, and the worn-out — for anyone who simply believes. The finish line of everlasting life is not earned by performance. It is received by faith.
We run this race not to earn God's love but because we already have it. That changes everything about how we endure. Every hard mile, every setback, every moment of doubt is carried in the arms of a God who gave His most precious gift so that you would not perish. That is the fuel that keeps you going.
