Commit and Be Established

There is something quietly powerful about the word 'commit' — it is not a passive word. This morning I want to sit with you for just a moment in the peace that comes when we truly hand our work over to the One who holds all things together.

“Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.”
Proverbs 16:3 (KJV)

Good morning, friend. I have been thinking lately about how much mental energy I spend trying to figure everything out on my own — turning plans over and over in my mind, searching for certainty that never quite arrives. Today's verse stopped me in my tracks, and I think it will do the same for you.

We live in a world that rewards self-reliance. Plan harder, work smarter, hustle longer — the voices are constant. Yet Proverbs 16:3 turns that wisdom upside down. The path to a settled, established mind does not begin with better strategy. It begins with surrender.

The word 'commit' here carries the image of rolling a heavy burden off your shoulders and onto the Lord. Your project, your relationship, your calling, your fear — you roll it toward Him and leave it there. What follows is remarkable: your thoughts become established. Not your circumstances necessarily, but your thoughts. Your inner world finds solid ground.

This is not a promise that everything will go as you planned. It is something better — a promise that when God holds your work, He also steadies your mind. You can run your race today without the crushing weight of needing to control every outcome.

Take It With You

Before you begin your work today, pause for sixty seconds and verbally offer it to God — say the words out loud, roll the burden off, and then step forward trusting that He has it.

Prayer: Lord, I commit my work to You right now — take it, hold it, and establish my thoughts in Your peace as I run today's portion of the race. Amen.

In October 1968, NASA launched Apollo 7, the first crewed Apollo mission, which performed flawlessly and restored confidence in the American space program after a devastating setback. The crew completed eleven days in orbit, proving the spacecraft was ready for the moon. It was a triumphant reminder that perseverance and careful work can turn tragedy into progress.
