New Every Morning

Good morning, friend. I want you to know that whatever yesterday held — the stumbles, the weariness, the moments you'd rather forget — today is a fresh page. That's not wishful thinking; it's the very heart of Lamentations 3, and I'm so glad we get to sit with it together.

— Eric

“It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”
Lamentations 3:22-23 (KJV)

Jeremiah wrote the book of Lamentations from the rubble of a destroyed city. His grief was real, his circumstances were devastating — and yet, right in the middle of that darkness, he anchored himself to something unshakeable: the mercy of God that simply does not run out.

Think about what it means that we are 'not consumed.' Jeremiah wasn't writing from a comfortable place — he was writing from the ashes. And still, he looked around and said, 'I'm here. We're still here. That is mercy.' Sometimes the greatest evidence of God's faithfulness is simply that we made it through the night.

But the promise doesn't stop at survival. The compassions of God are described as 'new every morning' — not recycled, not rationed, not grudgingly given. Each dawn brings a full, fresh measure of His care for you. You are not drawing on yesterday's supply. You are not overdrawn. His faithfulness is the source that never empties.

For those of us running the long race of faith, this is the fuel that keeps us going. We don't have to white-knuckle our way through hard seasons on willpower alone. We wake up, and mercy is already there — before the coffee, before the news, before the first difficult thing of the day.

Take It With You

Before you check your phone or dive into your to-do list this morning, take sixty seconds to simply say, 'Thank You, Lord, for new mercy today.' Let that truth settle in your chest before the day's noise begins.

Prayer: Father, great is Your faithfulness — even on the days I struggle to see it. Thank You that Your mercies meet me fresh this morning, and give me eyes to run today's stretch of the race in that confidence. Amen.
