He Has Overcome

I've been thinking lately about how quickly life can shift from calm to turbulent — sometimes before we even finish our morning coffee. If you're carrying something heavy today, I wrote this one especially with you in mind. Let's anchor ourselves together in what Jesus actually promised.

— Eric

“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33 (KJV)

Jesus didn't sugarcoat what awaits us on this side of eternity. He looked His closest friends in the eyes — knowing the arrest, the cross, and the scattering were hours away — and said plainly: in this world, you will have tribulation. No asterisk, no fine print. The storms are real, and He knew it better than anyone.

But notice He didn't stop there. He pressed straight through the hard truth into something stronger: 'Be of good cheer.' That phrase isn't a cheerful shrug or a command to pretend the pain isn't real. It's a battle cry rooted in a finished victory. Jesus spoke these words before the cross, yet He declared it done — because in Him, it already was.

This is the peace He offers: not the absence of trouble, but a settled confidence that the One running alongside you in the race has already broken the finish-line tape. The world throws its worst, and it still loses. Your tribulation does not get the final word — He does.

Take It With You

Today, when a worry tries to steal your peace, speak it back aloud: 'He has overcome.' Let that truth be louder than the trouble in front of you.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You that Your victory is already won — help me run today's leg of the race in the confidence of that truth. Amen.

1988 — A Triumph of Human Endurance

In late September 1988, Canadian athlete Terry Fox's legacy received a powerful tribute when the Terry Fox Run expanded to more than 60 countries around the world, raising millions for cancer research in a single day. Fox himself had run across Canada with a prosthetic leg to inspire hope for others, finishing each mile against tremendous pain. His story stands as a remarkable example of endurance, selfless love for neighbor, and refusing to let hardship have the final word.
