We sometimes think of faith as something deeply private — tucked away in our hearts, safe from the scrutiny of the world. And while there is certainly a hidden, intimate side to our walk with God, Jesus reminds us that the life He gives is never meant to stay hidden.
Jesus doesn't say, 'Try to shine.' He says, 'Let your light shine.' The word 'let' is significant — it's a permission, an release, a loosening of whatever might be holding the light back. Fear. Self-consciousness. The worry that someone might think we're being showy or strange. But Jesus is gently saying: stop containing what I've placed in you.
Notice, too, the goal He sets before us. It isn't that people would admire us, or even respect us — it's that they would glorify your Father in heaven. Our good works are not a performance; they are a pointer. Every act of kindness, every word of grace, every moment of integrity under pressure becomes a small arrow pointing upward, saying, 'There is a God, and He is good.'
On the race of faith, we don't run in the dark. We run as lights. And the beautiful thing about light is that it doesn't have to announce itself — it simply shines, and the darkness around it changes. Keep running. Keep shining. The world is watching, and heaven is glorified.

Take It With You
Today, do one visible act of goodness — not for applause, but as a quiet offering to God. Let someone see Christ in you before the day is done.
|
Prayer: Father, remove whatever dims my light today, and let every good thing I do point straight back to You. Amen.
