Filled to Overflowing

There are mornings when hope feels thin — when the road ahead looks long and your reserves feel low. I've been there too, and that's exactly why today's verse stopped me in my tracks and wouldn't let go.

— Eric

“Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.”
Romans 15:13 (KJV)

Hope is not something we manufacture on our best days. It is something God pours into us — and He is extraordinarily generous with it.

Paul's blessing in Romans 15:13 is striking for one small word: *fill*. Not a trickle, not a portion — fill. The God of hope wants to flood you with joy and peace so completely that hope spills out of you into everything around you. That is not the language of someone scraping by. That is the language of abundance.

Notice the order: joy and peace come first, *in believing* — and then hope grows from that soil. Faith is the root. When we trust God at His word, when we choose to believe even on the hard days, joy and peace begin to take hold. And out of that quiet, settled confidence, hope rises. Not hope as wishful thinking, but hope as an anchor, steady and sure.

And none of this happens by our own striving. Paul is careful to say it comes *through the power of the Holy Ghost.* The same Spirit who raised Christ from the dead is the one tending the flame of hope in your heart. You are not running this race on empty — you have been given the most powerful Helper imaginable.

Take It With You

Today, when anxiety tries to crowd out hope, pause and ask the Holy Spirit to fill you afresh — then trust that He will, because that is exactly what He loves to do.

Prayer: God of hope, fill me today with joy and peace as I place my trust in You, and let that hope overflow into every step of the race ahead. Amen.

1863 — A Day of Thanksgiving Declared

In October 1863, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national day of Thanksgiving, calling the American people to gratitude even in the midst of the Civil War's darkest hours. His proclamation acknowledged God as the source of blessing and hope for a wounded nation. It was a public, humble turning toward the God of hope at a moment when hope was desperately needed.
