We don't always get a floodlight. Sometimes God gives us just enough light for the next step — and Psalm 119:105 reminds us that His Word is exactly that: a lamp, a light, precisely measured for the road beneath our feet.
The ancient image of a lamp is worth sitting with. A traveler in the ancient world carried a small oil lamp that illuminated only a few feet ahead. It wasn't meant to reveal the whole journey at once — it was meant to keep you moving safely through the dark, one faithful step at a time. God's Word works the same way.
When we open Scripture, we aren't promised a detailed map of our future. We're promised something better: the presence of a Guide who knows the path completely and gives us exactly the light we need for today. That is not a limitation — it is a mercy. It keeps us dependent on Him, walking closely, listening carefully.
For those of us running the race of faith, this is sustaining news. You don't need to see mile twenty-six to take the next step. Open the Word. Let it speak. Trust the lamp.

Take It With You
Set aside even five minutes today to read a passage of Scripture slowly, asking God to illuminate one specific thing He wants you to see for where you are right now.

Prayer: Lord, thank You that I don't have to navigate this day alone — open my eyes to the light Your Word provides, and give me the courage to take the next step it reveals. Amen.
