European nations that have encouraged and taken in refugees from Syria and Somalia, etc, have seen huge spikes in violence with knives, and even machetes.
Though not all the reasons for the violence have been confirmed, at least a handful is being attributed to the criminal’s adherence to the fundamental radical teachings of Islam.
One example was the horrific murder of a British soldier who was hacked to death by two men shouting Islamic slogans in a south London street in 2013, in what the government said appeared to be a terrorist attack.
A suspect is facing terrorism charges in connectionthat wounded two NYPD officers in Times Square on New Year’s Eve.
In the late night hours of Dec. 31, a suspect targeted three officers with a machete, the NYPD reported.
Trevor Bickford, 19, has been indicted by a grand jury on multiple counts, including first-degree attempted murder, first-degree attempted murder in the furtherance of an act of terrorism and aggravated assault on a police officer as a crime of terrorism, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office reported Friday. In total, he faces 18 felony counts.
Federal prosecutors said that Bickford began looking for radical Islamic ideology online in the summer of 2022. They said that Bickford even planned to travel to the Middle East to support the Taliban and that he told a family member he wanted to be a suicide bomber.
On New Year’s Day, a man murdered a Dollar Tree employee with a machete inside an Upper Sandusky, Ohio store, the city’s police chief told 13abc.
Officers received a call around 4:25 p.m. Sunday for a man waving a weapon around inside the store. He left before officers got there, according to Upper Sandusky Police Chief Jared Lucas. Officers later located the suspect, Bethel M. Bekele, 27, on the 100 block of South Fifth Street and arrested him.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found Keris L. Riebel, 22, deceased. During an investigation, it was learned that Bekele entered the store with the machete, approached Riebel, and struck her numerous times with the weapon.
A quick-thinking veteran’s military training kicked in as he stopped a man wielding a knife from threatening employees and shoppers at a South Carolina Walmart.
It is unknown at this time the cause of the criminal’s actions
The man was shouting and waving around a pocket knife inside the store in the city of Columbia, threatening to cut people, witnesses and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department told Fox News.
Demario Davis, a veteran who was shopping with his son, spotted the crazed man and waited for his moment to intervene, he told the outlet.
“I was at the checkout when my son noticed the guy walk in with the knife open,” he said. “He then proceeded to the service desk waving the knife at a few female employees.”
He said the man yelled, “when the cops get here, I’m going to start cutting you all up.”
Davis said he watched another customer try to stop the man, but he tried to cut him in the face.
The video shows Davis grabbing a stanchion and whacking the man over the head from behind. The man falls to the ground, dropping the knife and another customer stands over him and quickly scoops it up.
“Another customer tried to subdue the gentleman waving the knife, but the guy tried to cut him in the face. That’s when my military training kicked in and I casually walked over to the object not only to take him down but also protect myself in case I failed, but with my great military training I was able to neutralize the threat until law enforcement arrived,” Davis told Fox News Digital.
“My first instinct was to neutralize the situation so I just casually walked over and waited until I had an opportunity to get him and I got em I guess. I’m a community person, so if I see something in the community that’s not right, with all the violence and things and attacks going on, gun violence you know, you want your people in the community to step up as well. The cops can’t do it all by themselves,” Davis said.
Police arrested the suspect.
