Nothing Can Separate You
Primary Scripture: Romans 8:38–39 (LSB)
“For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

There are moments in every believer’s life when doubt begins to creep into our hearts.
We wonder if God still loves us after we’ve failed.
We question whether we’ve drifted too far.
We struggle through suffering and ask if the Lord has forgotten us.
The good news of the gospel is that God’s love for His children is not based on our changing emotions or our imperfect performance. It is anchored in the finished work of Jesus Christ.
As Paul closes Romans chapter 8, he doesn’t offer wishful thinking or empty encouragement. He declares one of the greatest promises in all of Scripture: nothing can separate those who belong to Christ from the love of God.
Our Security Is Found in Christ
Paul begins by listing life’s greatest fears.
Death.
Life.
Angels.
Rulers.
The present.
The future.
Powers.
Height.
Depth.
Then, lest he leave anything out, he adds:
“…nor any other created thing…”
Everything in creation is included.
Why?
Because our security does not rest in our ability to hold on to Christ.
It rests in Christ’s ability to hold on to us.
Jesus Himself declared:
“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish—ever; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.”
— John 10:27–28
What incredible comfort.
The Savior who died for us is the Savior who keeps us.
God’s Love Is Unchanging
Human love can disappoint.
People make promises they fail to keep.
Relationships change.
Circumstances change.
Feelings come and go.
But God never changes.
His love is steadfast because His character is perfect.
When Christ died on the cross, He fully satisfied God’s justice on behalf of everyone who trusts in Him.
There is no condemnation left for those who are in Christ Jesus.
That doesn’t mean Christians never struggle with sin.
We do.
We stumble.
We confess.
We repent.
And our Heavenly Father lovingly restores us.
Our failures grieve Him, but they do not surprise Him.
The cross already accounted for every sin of every believer.
His grace is greater than our weakness.
Trials Cannot Separate Us
Romans chapter 8 was written to Christians who faced persecution, hardship, imprisonment, and even death.
Paul wasn’t writing from a life of comfort.
He had been beaten.
Imprisoned.
Rejected.
Shipwrecked.
Yet he confidently declared that none of those hardships could separate him from Christ.
The same remains true today.
Cancer cannot separate you.
Financial hardship cannot separate you.
Loneliness cannot separate you.
Persecution cannot separate you.
Loss cannot separate you.
Even death itself cannot separate the believer from Christ.
Instead, death becomes the doorway into His presence.
Live With Confidence
Knowing that nothing can separate us from God’s love doesn’t produce spiritual laziness.
It produces gratitude.
We obey because we are loved.
We serve because we are secure.
We worship because we belong to Christ forever.
The assurance of salvation gives us confidence to face uncertainty without fear.
No matter what today brings, you do not walk alone.
The same God who called you is the God who keeps you.
The same Savior who died for you now intercedes for you at the Father’s right hand.
The same Holy Spirit who sealed you will complete the work He began in you.
Today’s Challenge
When fear or doubt begins to creep into your heart today, stop and read Romans 8:38–39 aloud.
Thank God that your salvation rests on Christ’s finished work, not your own strength.
Then encourage someone else with this promise.
There are countless believers who need to be reminded that God’s love is stronger than their fears.
Remember…
The love of God is not fragile.
It is eternal.
It is steadfast.
It is unchanging.
If you belong to Jesus Christ, nothing in heaven, on earth, or under the earth can separate you from His love.
Walk in that confidence today.
Rest in His promises.
Trust His faithfulness.
And whatever today brings…
