New York Supreme Court Stops Non-Citizens From Voting

In basic American Civics, only those who are citizens, have the right to vote in elections.

A universal truth throughout the United States, our unique Constitutional Republic.

This and other aspects of our government used to be taught starting in elementary schools and were reinforced in middle and high schools.

Civics and government were even taught in a Saturday morning cartoon series and via other lectures on the American way of life.

But rogue states like California and New York, have decided to play by their own set of rules, which is leading them both into lawlessness.

Crime is out of control in blue states as the police departments have been partially defunded and criminals’ sentencing has been reduced, charges even dropped, depending upon how liberal the local DA is.

In California where I am located, Illegal aliens are given driver’s licenses, work as W-2 employees, can get a mortgage, and receive tax returns and COVID stimulus checks.

In LA country and San Francisco, they can even vote in local elections.

Democrats on the New York City Council approved a plan last year that would allow more than 800K foreign nationals on temporary status to vote illegally in citywide elections.

The “Our City, Our Vote” bill became law in January and was scheduled to begin in 2023.

Yes, these radical politicians just make up laws, and provisions to fit their globalist agenda, then expect the courts to go along with them.

Well, the New York Supreme Court just threw water on the NYC City Council’s unconstitutional plan.

Staten Island Justice Ralph J. Porzio wrote that giving non-citizens the right to vote would require a referendum, according to the New York Times.

“The New York State Constitution expressly states that citizens meeting the age and residency requirements are entitled to register and vote in elections,” according to the New York Daily News.

Though voting is a right so many citizens take for granted, the City of New York cannot ‘obviate’ the restrictions imposed by the Constitution,” he added.

New York officials are celebrating after the state’s Supreme Court struck down a Democrat-passed law.

Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY), who is running for governor, praised the decision:

“Voting is a sacred right of U.S. citizens, and, today, the New York State Supreme Court correctly reaffirmed that right. One person, one vote belongs to U.S. citizens, and no one else! No way should noncitizens be allowed to vote.”

NYC Councilman Holden, a Democrat from Queens, also applauded the ruling.

“I applaud today’s court decision in favor of our bi-partisan lawsuit, affirming what we already knew: non-citizen voting in [New York] is a violation of law,”

“Citizenship and suffrage have always been tied together for good reason, and must never be torn from each other,” Holden continued.

Councilman Joe Borelli (R-Staten Island) said the ruling “validates those of us who can read the plain English words of our state constitution and state statutes: noncitizen voting in New York is illegal…”

“Shame on those who thought they could skirt the law for political gain,” he said.

Councilwoman Inna Vernikov (R-Brooklyn) called voting a “sacred right and privilege that is granted exclusively to citizens of the United States,”

As an immigrant,” she continued, “… I am proud to be a plaintiff in this lawsuit.”

Councilwoman Joann Ariola (R-Queens) called the ruling “a win for democracy.”

New York State GOP Chairman Nick Langworthy said the ruling is “another victory for citizen rights, election integrity, and the rule of law” and vowed to continue fighting the issue in court:

Dale Wilcox of the Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI), which filed a friend of the court brief in support of the suit against the law, said he is “pleased this law is now null and void.”

This bill should have never been considered in the first place.

But, as we see on Capitol Hill and in the White House, the Democrats choose to rule via executive orders, and when needed, will pass unconstitutional laws requiring the Judicial Branch to stop them, over and over again.

Our form of government will not stand long term with enemies in the camp, constantly shooting at those who love our nation, our liberties, and whose faith is in God, not a government made up of corrupt politicians.
