God Isn’t Finished With You
Primary Scripture: Philippians 1:6 (LSB)
“For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 1:6
Have you ever looked at your life and wondered, “Why am I still struggling with this?”
Maybe it’s a habit you’ve tried to break.
Maybe it’s a weakness that seems to resurface over and over.
Maybe you feel like you should be further along in your walk with Christ than you are today.
If you’ve ever felt discouraged by your spiritual growth, you’re not alone.
Every believer experiences seasons when progress seems painfully slow.
But God’s Word gives us incredible encouragement.
Paul writes with confidence:
“For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Notice who began the work.
God did.
And notice who promises to complete it.
God does.
Your salvation was never your accomplishment.
It was God’s gracious work from beginning to end.
The same God who opened your eyes to the gospel is the God who continues transforming your heart every single day.
God Never Abandons His Work
When an artist begins a masterpiece, he doesn’t quit halfway through.
When a builder lays a foundation, he intends to finish the house.
How much more will the Creator of heaven and earth complete the work He has begun in His children?
God never loses interest in His people.
He never becomes frustrated and walks away.
He never says, “I’ve done all I can do.”
Our heavenly Father is perfectly faithful.
Every day He is shaping His children into the image of His Son.
Some days that work is obvious.
Other days it feels almost invisible.
But His promise remains unchanged.
He will finish what He started.
Sanctification Is a Lifelong Journey
Many Christians expect spiritual growth to happen quickly.
We assume that after a few months—or even a few years—we should have conquered every sinful habit and mastered every spiritual discipline.
But Scripture paints a different picture.
The Christian life is a lifelong journey of sanctification.
Day by day, the Holy Spirit patiently transforms us.
Sometimes growth happens through joyful seasons.
Sometimes it happens through painful trials.
Sometimes it comes through quiet obedience that no one else notices.
Like a tree growing beside a river, healthy spiritual growth often happens slowly.
You may not notice it from one day to the next.
But over months and years, the fruit becomes unmistakable.
You become more patient.
More gracious.
Quicker to forgive.
Slower to speak in anger.
More eager to obey God’s Word.
That is the work of God’s grace.
God Uses Every Circumstance
Romans 8:28 reminds us that God works all things together for good for those who love Him.
The very next verse explains what that “good” is.
God is conforming believers to the image of Jesus Christ.
That means nothing in your life is wasted.
Your successes teach humility.
Your failures teach dependence.
Your trials produce perseverance.
Your victories increase gratitude.
Even your seasons of waiting are shaping your faith.
God often accomplishes His greatest work in us long before He accomplishes His greatest work through us.
Every circumstance becomes another tool in the hands of the Master Craftsman.
Christ Is the Goal
God’s purpose is not simply to make us happier or more comfortable.
His highest purpose is to make us more like Jesus.
That means there will be times when He lovingly removes pride.
He teaches us patience through delay.
He develops compassion through suffering.
He strengthens faith through uncertainty.
These moments may not feel pleasant.
But they are evidence of His loving care.
A wise father disciplines his children because he loves them.
Our heavenly Father does the same.
Everything He allows has an eternal purpose.
The Best Is Still Ahead
One day, God’s work of sanctification will be complete.
When Christ returns—or when we go to be with Him—we will finally be free from sin forever.
No more temptation.
No more guilt.
No more spiritual battles.
No more tears.
We will see our Savior face to face.
We will worship Him with perfect joy.
And we will become exactly what He intended us to be.
Until that day comes, God continues His faithful work.
Even when you cannot see it.
Even when you feel discouraged.
Even when you stumble.
His grace is greater than your weakness.
His power is stronger than your failures.
His promises never change.
Today’s Challenge
Take a few moments today to look back over the past year.
Where has God changed your heart?
How has He grown your faith?
What sins has He helped you overcome?
What new desires for holiness has He planted within you?
Thank Him for every evidence of His grace.
Then trust Him with the areas where you are still growing.
Remember, God is not discouraged with His work in you.
He knows exactly what He is doing.
Remember…
God’s mercies are new this morning.
He never abandons what He begins.
Trust His timing.
Rest in His promises.
Keep following Christ.
And whatever today brings…
