Texas Governor Greg Abbott Declares An ‘Invasion’ At US Border

Following Joe Biden’s inauguration, the 46th President of The United States ended successful border policies put in place by former President Donald J. Trump.

Trump’s actions were praised by the Border Patrol for dramatically slowing the number of illegal aliens entering the U.S.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) and other border states governors have reached out to the Biden administration asking for help but to no avail.

Following his re-election last Tuesday, Gov. Abbott decided to take action by declaring an “invasion” at the southern border and indicated that he would be taking a series of “unprecedented measures … to keep our state & country safe.”

On Monday, Abbott wrote a letter to county judges along the Texas-Mexico border, claiming, “President Biden has abandoned his responsibility to enforce immigration laws, and Congress has refused to hold the President accountable and has abandoned its own responsibility to use the immigration power given to it in Article I, § 8 of the U.S. Constitution.”

The Republican governor invoked Article 4, Section 7 of the Texas Constitution, which states that the governor “shall have power to call forth the militia to execute the laws of the State, to suppress insurrections, and to repel invasions.”

Abbott announced via social media that he had “invoked the Invasion Clauses of the U.S. & Texas Constitutions to fully authorize Texas to take unprecedented measures to defend our state against an invasion.”

In the tweet, Abbott argues that he has the constitutional authority to:

  • “Deploy the National Guard to safeguard our border & to repel & turn back immigrants trying to cross the border illegally”
  • “Deploy the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) to arrest & return the border immigrants who crossed illegally & deploy DPS to arrest illegal immigrants for criminal activity”
  • “Build a border wall in multiple counties on the border”
  • “Deploy gunboats to secure the border”
  • “Designate Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations”
  • “Enter into a compact with other states to secure the border”
  • “Enter into agreements with foreign powers to enhance border security”
  • “Provide resources for border counties to increase their efforts to respond to the border invasion.”

Abbott’s declaration is supported by an analysis published by The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR).

Since President Biden took office, nearly 4.9 million illegal aliens have crossed our borders.

“This includes the 3.9 million nationwide total reported by CBP – which includes a whopping 3.4 million at our Southwest border – as well as approximately 900,000 gotaways who have entered the country undetected per agency sources.”

Abbott’s announcement conflicts with the Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’s instance that the border is secure. The open-borders Cuban-born Communist told the House Committee on Homeland Security repeated his factually untrue assessment.

FBI Director Christopher Wray’s testimony to the committee conflicted with Mayorkas. “What I would say is that we see significant criminal threats coming from south of the border — whether it’s guns, drugs, money, violence.”

According to US Border Patrol, there have been 12,028 criminal convictions of noncitizens this year.

In addition, countless numbers of additional crimes are being committed throughout the US, undetected by the local and national authorities.
