President Trump To Visit East Palestine After Toxic Train Derailment

Timing is everything, especially when it comes to politics.

Those who can capitalize on breaking and trending events tend to increase their popularity and trustworthiness.

On February 3, 2023, a Norfolk Southern freight train hauling carcinogenic chemicals derailed in the small town of East Palestine, Ohio, sending plumes of dangerous gas into the atmosphere during a “controlled release” burn.  The main chemical mentioned in reports, vinyl chloride, is used to make PVC.

Exposure to vinyl chloride is known to cause certain cancers, according to

Vinyl chloride exposure is associated with an increased risk of a rare form of liver cancer (hepatic angiosarcoma), as well as primary liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma), brain and lung cancers, lymphoma, and leukemia.

The company opted to release the gas from the derailed cars, releasing potentially deadly fumes and other dangerous chemicals into the air, to prevent a disastrous explosion. Local residents were told to evacuate the area during the release but were assured it was safe to return on Feb. 9.

Despite officials stating that residents were safe to return, people expressed concerns over dead animals and fish appearing in the area, as well as a chemical smell in the air. On Friday, DeWine confirmed that a portion of the Sulphur Run was “severely contaminated,” as videos appeared of a rainbow sheen on the water, including a video posted to Twitter by Ohio Sen. JD Vance.

With the Biden administration once again failing to lead, this time via their collective non-actions in helping the local residents of East Palestine, former President Donald J. Trump’s plans to travel to East Palestine on Wednesday to meet with members of the community.
Trump Jr. tweeted out the news Friday afternoon.

“Breaking News: Trump will visit East Palestine, Ohio next week,” Trump Jr. wrote. “If our ‘leaders’ are too afraid to actually lead real leaders will step up and fill the void.”

On Truth Social President Trump criticized FEMA for not providing financial assistance and then confirmed his visit on Saturday:

“Biden and FEMA said they would not be sending federal aid to East Palestine. As soon as I announced that I’m going, he announced a team will go. Hopefully, he will also be there. This is good news because we got them to “move.” The people of East Palestine need help. I’ll see you on Wednesday!”

In addition to proving some much-needed leadership and assurances to the local residents, the former president who easily won the Buckeye state in both 2016 and 2020, can get a boost in his 2024 campaign just as more GOP rivals are throwing their hat into the ring.

A boost from the visit would help Trump build even more momentum early on in the contest.

The business mogul has been leading in nearly every poll including a new Rasmussen survey that shows Trump Leading Florida Governor Ron DeSantis by 13 Points Among Republican Voters.

On Saturday morning Trump posted on Truth Social:

Just took a very big lead in the Polls. People want to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, and fast. Right now, we are a Nation in Decline! Donald J. Trump – 50%, Ron DeSanctimonious – 24%, Mike Pence – 9%, Nikki Haley – 7%, Ted Cruz – 4%. Head to head: Donald J. Trump – 61%. Thank you!
