Chick-fil-A Worker Rescues Woman And Baby From Armed Carjacker

On Wednesday, a woman getting a baby out of her vehicle outside a Chick-fil-A in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, was attacked.

A man, later identified as 43-year-old William Branch of DeFuniak Springs, armed with a stick, confronted her and allegedly demanded her keys.

The terrified woman cried out as the man wrenched her keys away from her waistband and climbed inside her vehicle.

According to deputies, that’s when Mykel Gordon ran into action.

Gordon, a Chick-fil-A employee, heard the victim’s urgent calls for help and tackled the suspect. Despite catching a punch to the face, Gordon worked to subdue the suspect and was ultimately aided in doing so by other bystanders.

“She had a baby in her hand! How dare you?!” one onlooker shouted at the grounded suspect after Gordon restored order to the scene.

The employee said Branch had been involved in another incident shortly before the carjacking attempt.

The Okaloosa County sheriff’s office tweeted, “A major shout-out to this young man for his courage!”

Matthew Sexton, the operator of the Chick-fil-A, told CNN he was grateful for his “amazing Team Member, Mykel Gordon, who so selflessly jumped in to intervene and help our Guests.” Sexton noted further that he “couldn’t be prouder of his incredible act of care.”

The actions taken by Mykel show that good old fashion American civics are still alive in Northern Florida.
