Most elected officials are required to swear to defend the Constitution:
“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.”
The problem is when it’s time to take action, most of them go into some form of career-focused paralysis.
One of the expectations is Florida Congressman Cory Mills (R) who actually took action trying to rescue Americans trapped in Israel during the terrorist attacks conducted by Hamas.
As Israel was calling up 300,000 reservists to join the war effort, Mills flew overnight to Israel.

In an exclusive phone call with The Floridian, Rep. Mills said that he was on the ground helping Israelis and evacuating Americans.
According to Mills, he rescued 32 Americans, but there are still “hundreds trapped” in Israel.
Mills could not disclose his exact position for obvious security reasons but said that “helping and showing solidarity with our Israeli brethren and helping Americans evacuate” after the heinous Hamas attack was something he as an American felt compelled to do.
Before being elected to the House of Representatives, Mills and a team of military contractors rescued an American family from Afghanistan during the Biden administration‘s botched 2021 withdrawal.

Mills, who served in Iraq with the 82nd Airborne Division, told “America Reports” he cannot share specifics of his mission or location due to operational concerns and constraints, but added that his work is not over in rescuing his fellow countrymen from harm’s way.
Some Americans had found themselves stuck in areas that now lack a “permissible environment” for full escape, Mills said, adding that he also helped evacuate U.S. citizens and eligible individuals from Afghanistan during President Biden’s chaotic August 2021 withdrawal.
