10 GOP RINOS Fold – Agree To Senate Gun Control Agreement Targeting 2A
Well, once again when We The People needed our political leaders to do the right thing, they dropped the ball instead.
The GOP is about to fold once more, this time allowing unconstitutional encroachments on our Second Amendment rights.
2-week negotiations for a bipartisan gun control bill ended with an agreement on Sunday.
The bill includes popular items in it, but also unconstitutional restrictions and a gun grab.
The Washington Post notes that the gun control agreement was signed by 20 Senators, ten of whom are Democrats, and ten of whom are Republicans.
Politico reports that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has already said he will “put this bill on the floor as soon as possible.”
The plan, pushed by President Joe Biden, includes support for state “red flag” laws allowing even non-family members to ask a local court to take away firearms from “potentially dangerous people”, and tougher criminal background checks for gun buyers under age 21.
The red flag law incentives “[provide] resources to states and tribes to create and administer laws that help ensure deadly weapons are kept out of the hands of individuals whom a court has determined to be a significant danger to themselves or others, consistent with state and federal due process and constitutional protections.”
House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) on Sunday said he does not support legislation on red flag laws, calling them “unconstitutional” and a non-solution to a broader debate on how to curb gun violence.
Scalise told “Fox News Sunday” host John Roberts that red flag laws, implemented in 19 states across the U.S., are unconstitutional because authorities violate a Second Amendment right to bear arms when they seize firearms from an individual a court deems is a threat.
“They literally come into your house and take away your gun without you even knowing that there was some kind of proceeding where somebody said, ‘Oh, I think that gun might be a threat,’” the lawmaker said. “Maybe somebody thought taking away a gun from a 19-year-old is going to solve a problem. It happens to be unconstitutional.”
The Senate agreement also includes a crackdown on straw purchases that targets criminals “who illegally purchase and traffic guns.”
The deeper records search for gun purchases could extend the timeframe for the background check, as the gun control agreement “requires an investigative period to review juvenile and mental health records.”
School safety, mental health services, and keeping convicted domestic abusers from accessing weapons are areas that I believe Americans universally support, all three are included.
- The Senate agreement has Telehealth Investments for mental health and other mental health and funding for Family Mental Health Services.
- It contains school safety measures designed to “help institute safety measures in and around primary and secondary schools, support school violence prevention efforts and provide training to school personnel and students.”
- The Senate agreement also ensures that “convicted domestic violence abusers and individuals subject to domestic violence restraining orders are included in NICS.”
This is a great time to call your U.S. Senators demanding they vote NO on this bill.
In typical fashion, the left is adding anti-gun items to the legislation.
If the Democrats would scale it back to only include school security, mental health funding, and blocking convicted felons /domestic abusers, I believe they could get nearly all 50 Senators, uniting our country for once.
