Nation’s First Drive-Thru Grocery Store Coming to Oklahoma

A curbside drive-thru grocery store is about to open in the Oklahoma City metro.

JackBe will open its first location Tuesday morning at 178th Street and May Avenue in Edmond, Oklahoma. The store will be the first of three locations scheduled to open in 2023.

A news release says that the new drive-thru store makes groceries available “on demand,” and customers can pick up their groceries ordered via the JackBe app. After an order is placed, a JackBe staff member will deliver groceries to the customer’s car.

“By opening JackBe, we’re introducing a new way for customers to shop that provides convenience, value and great quality with no substitutions,” JackBe CEO Alex Ruhter said in the news release. “We have studied customers’ needs and created a shopping experience that’s designed specifically for busy people. We’re committed to our promise to make grocery shopping a better experience.

“That’s why we’re excited to share JackBe with the Oklahoma City community, where we are founded and headquartered.”

No customers will actually enter the 17,000 square foot building, instead they will scan a QR code when they arrive and an employee will run out to the car with their order. There will be no minimum order and no additional fees for pickup.

JackBe was founded in OKC in 2022 with just five full-time employees. The Edmond store will be the first of three locations scheduled to open in 2023.

JackBe features a 17,000-square-foot location where customers can buy produce; meat; bakery; deli; health and beauty care; and baby, pets and consumables. Stores will soon feature meals as well as local brands in many departments, according to the news release.
