We live in a world that loves complexity. We pile up rules, systems, and scorecards, as if faithfulness were a puzzle we have to crack. But Micah 6:8 cuts through all of that with startling clarity: God has already shown us what is good.
To 'do justly' means we treat people the way God's own character demands — fairly, honestly, without favoritism or cruelty. It's not a grand courtroom gesture; it shows up in the small decisions of every ordinary day. Are we honest in our dealings? Do we speak up for those who can't speak for themselves? Justice begins right where we are standing.
To 'love mercy' goes one step further — and what a step it is. Justice gives people what they deserve; mercy offers what they don't. God doesn't just want us to act mercifully out of duty; He wants us to love it, to find our hearts genuinely moved toward compassion. That kind of mercy is only possible when we remember how much mercy we ourselves have received.
And undergirding it all: 'walk humbly with thy God.' Not sprint ahead of Him, not lag behind — walk with Him. Humility keeps justice from becoming self-righteousness and mercy from becoming pride. When we stay close to God, every step of the race is shaped by His pace, His wisdom, and His love.
