What does it mean to be made new? Not improved, not patched up, not slightly better — but genuinely, fundamentally new? Second Corinthians 5:17 answers that question with a quiet thunder that still echoes across centuries.
The phrase 'new creature' in the original Greek carries the idea of a new creation altogether — not a renovation project, but a Genesis moment. When you are in Christ, God does not simply edit your story; He authors a new one. The old self, with all its shame and striving, does not get the final word. Christ does.
This does not mean the past vanishes from memory or that growth happens overnight. What it means is that your identity is no longer anchored to what you were. The chains have been cut. The sentence has been commuted. You are not serving time for a life you no longer live. You are free — and freedom in Christ is not fragile.
The race we are called to run is not run by the person we used to be. It is run by the new creation God has already declared us to be. Every step forward is evidence that the old has passed and the new has truly come.
