When God Says “Wait”
“Wait for the LORD; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the LORD.” — Psalm 27:14 (NASB)
Waiting is one of the hardest parts of the Christian life.
We don’t mind if God answers “yes.”
We may not like hearing “no,” but at least we know where we stand.
It’s the waiting that tests us.
We pray for healing.
We pray for a new job.
We pray for a restored relationship.
We pray for direction.
And sometimes heaven seems quiet.
If you’ve ever wondered why God delays His answers, you’re not alone.
Nearly every major figure in Scripture experienced seasons of waiting.
Abraham waited decades for the son God promised.
Joseph waited in slavery and prison before becoming Egypt’s ruler.
David was anointed king but waited years before wearing the crown.
Even the disciples waited after Christ’s ascension for the coming of the Holy Spirit.
Waiting has always been one of God’s classrooms.
The world sees waiting as wasted time.
God often sees it as preparation.
While we focus on changing our circumstances, God is focused on changing our hearts.
He’s teaching us to trust Him more deeply.
To depend on Him more completely.
To love Him more than His gifts.
Waiting exposes what we truly believe about God.
Do we believe He is wise?
Do we believe He is good?
Do we believe His timing is better than ours?
Isaiah 40:31 gives one of the Bible’s greatest promises:
“Yet those who wait for the LORD will gain new strength.”
Notice that Scripture doesn’t say those who rush ahead will gain strength.
Or those who force open every door.
Strength comes as we patiently trust God’s timing.
That doesn’t mean waiting is passive.
Biblical waiting is active faith.
While you wait, keep praying.
Keep reading God’s Word.
Keep serving faithfully.
Keep worshiping.
Keep loving others.
Keep doing the next thing God has clearly called you to do.
Don’t put your obedience on hold while you wait for your circumstances to change.
Sometimes we think life will finally begin when God answers our prayer.
But today’s faithfulness matters just as much as tomorrow’s breakthrough.
One of Satan’s favorite lies is this:
“God has forgotten you.”
Nothing could be further from the truth.
If you belong to Jesus Christ, your Father knows every detail of your life.
He has not overlooked your prayers.
He has not misplaced your future.
He has not abandoned His promises.
His delays are never accidental.
His timing is always perfect.
Even when you cannot see His hand, you can trust His heart.
Remember who you are.
You are an adopted child of God.
Your Father is never late.
He is never confused.
He is never caught off guard.
He is faithfully accomplishing His purposes in ways you may not yet understand.
One day you’ll look back and see that what felt like a delay was actually God’s loving preparation.
Until then, keep walking by faith.
Keep trusting.
Keep waiting with hope.
And never forget what we remind ourselves every morning:
God’s mercies are new every morning.
The grace you need for today’s waiting will be there today.
Tomorrow’s grace will arrive tomorrow.
Today’s Challenge
Identify one area where you’ve been waiting on God.
Instead of asking, “Why haven’t You answered yet?”
Ask,
“Lord, what are You teaching me while I wait?”
Then choose one act of faithful obedience today, trusting that God is working even when you cannot see it.
Remember…
God’s mercies are new this morning.
His timing is perfect.
His promises never fail.
Walk by faith.
Wait with hope.
And whatever today brings…
