God’s apparent silence does not mean God’s absence.
Primary Psalm: Psalm 46:1–3, 10
God is our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change
And though the mountains shake into the heart of the sea;
Though its waters roar and foam,
Though the mountains quake at its lofty pride. Selah.
There will be seasons in the Christian life when God feels incredibly near. Prayer seems natural. Scripture comes alive. Worship fills your heart with joy.
But there may also be seasons when God feels distant.
You pray—and nothing seems to change.
You read Scripture—but don’t feel the same excitement.
You ask God for direction—but the answer doesn’t come.
In those moments, remember something important:
Faith is not built on feelings.
God’s character does not change because our emotions do.
The writer of Psalm 42 understood spiritual discouragement. He cried out:
“Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why have you become disturbed within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him.”
Notice what he does.
He talks to his own soul.
He reminds himself of truth.
Sometimes that’s exactly what we must do.
When your emotions say God has forgotten you, answer with Scripture.
When fear says you’re alone, remember Christ’s promise:
“I will never desert you, nor will I ever abandon you.” — Hebrews 13:5
Christian, you may not always feel God’s presence.
But His promise remains.
And remember this morning:
His mercies are new.
Yesterday’s discouragement does not determine today’s faithfulness.
Seek Him again.
Open His Word again.
Pray again.
Trust again.
You are also in a spiritual battle. Satan would love to convince you that God’s silence means God has abandoned you.
Don’t believe the lie.
Stand on God’s promises.
You are His adopted child.
Nothing can separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus.
Today’s Challenge
Read Psalm 42 slowly.
Then say aloud:
“Hope in God.”
Even if you don’t feel it yet, choose to trust Him.
Walk by faith today—not by sight.
And whatever today brings…
Finish the Race.
