Prayer is not merely asking God to change circumstances. Often God uses prayer to change the one who prays. In prayer, we bring our desires, fears, sins, burdens, and decisions before the Lord. Through Scripture-shaped prayer, our hearts are corrected and strengthened. God’s sovereignty does not make prayer meaningless. It gives prayer confidence because we are speaking to the One who rules all things. Prayer teaches humility, dependence, repentance, gratitude, and endurance.
