Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett targeted in attempted swatting

Swatting Attack Targets Amy Coney Barrett’s Home as Political Intimidation Against Conservatives Intensifies

A disturbing attempted swatting incident targeting Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett has once again raised alarms about the growing climate of political hostility and intimidation in America. Authorities in Fairfax County, Virginia, confirmed that Barrett’s residence was targeted Wednesday evening after police received a false report claiming gunshots had been fired near the home.

Thankfully, law enforcement quickly recognized signs that the call could be a swatting attempt and coordinated directly with Supreme Court Police assigned to Barrett’s residence before escalating the response. Officers arrived on scene, communicated with security personnel protecting the justice and her family, and rapidly determined the report was completely fictitious.

Andrew Leyden, a freelance photographer who posts frequently on X as @PenguinSix, indicated on Thursday morning that police had responded to a call at Barrett’s home on Wednesday night, “but quickly realized it was a swatting call” and left “after meeting with her security detail.”

Leyden’s post on X included audio from the police department, which he said had been redacted under media guidelines intended to reduce copycat incidents. The audio noted that the address had “24-hour security coverage for a high-priority resident of the county.” An officer then reported that he had “made contact with security that’s on scene” at the house and the security detail hadn’t “heard anything.”

According to Fairfax County Police, the call came through the department’s non-emergency line around 9 p.m. The caller reportedly claimed to be a neighbor and alleged that shots had been fired near Barrett’s home. Dispatch audio later released publicly revealed officers were immediately cautious that the incident might be an intentional hoax designed to provoke a dangerous armed response.

Swatting is a malicious tactic in which someone falsely reports a violent crime — such as a shooting, hostage situation, or murder — with the goal of triggering an aggressive police deployment to a victim’s residence. These incidents are not harmless pranks. They have resulted in serious injuries and even deaths across the United States when heavily armed officers respond to fabricated emergencies.

In Barrett’s case, police wisely avoided an unnecessary escalation. Officers met with Supreme Court security already stationed at the property and found no evidence of gunfire or criminal activity. Authorities confirmed that no additional law enforcement resources were required once the call was determined to be false.

No arrests have yet been announced, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The attempted swatting comes amid a troubling rise in threats and intimidation directed toward judges, public officials, and conservative figures in America. Barrett, who was appointed to the Supreme Court by President Donald Trump in 2020, has repeatedly become a lightning rod for political activists because of her judicial philosophy and her role in major Supreme Court decisions.

Her home was previously targeted by protesters following the leak of the Dobbs decision that overturned Roe v. Wade. Demonstrators gathered outside the homes of several conservative justices despite federal laws prohibiting attempts to influence judges through protests at private residences.

The threats against Barrett have extended beyond protests. In 2025, Barrett’s sister was reportedly targeted by a bomb threat involving a false claim that an explosive device had been placed in her mailbox. Investigators also examined suspicious anonymous pizza deliveries sent to homes connected to Barrett’s family, which law enforcement viewed as a form of intimidation intended to communicate that activists knew where family members lived.

Now another dangerous incident has occurred — this time involving a swatting attempt that could have placed innocent lives at risk.

This growing pattern should deeply concern every American, regardless of political affiliation. A society cannot remain stable when disagreement turns into intimidation, harassment, and threats against families.

Christians should especially recognize the spiritual roots behind the growing rage and hostility consuming modern culture. Scripture warns repeatedly that sinful man, left unchecked, becomes increasingly lawless and violent.

Isaiah 5:20 declares:

“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil.”

America is witnessing a moral inversion where anger, intimidation, and public shaming are increasingly celebrated if directed against ideological opponents.

The Ninth Commandment forbids bearing false witness against others. Swatting is not merely reckless behavior; it is deliberate deception designed to endanger human life through lies. From a biblical perspective, it represents both false witness and hatred toward neighbor.

Jesus warned in John 8:44 that Satan is “a liar and the father of lies.” Acts rooted in deception and terror reflect the destructive nature of sin itself.

Reformed theologian John Calvin wrote that civil government exists partly to restrain evil and preserve order in fallen societies. He argued that when lawlessness spreads unchecked, society descends into chaos because sinful men naturally abuse power and seek vengeance.

That warning feels increasingly relevant today.

Many conservative Christians also see a double standard emerging in how threats and political intimidation are discussed publicly. When conservative judges or Christian figures are targeted, media outrage often appears muted compared to incidents affecting progressive causes or politicians.

Regardless of politics, threatening judges and their families should be universally condemned.

Romans 13 teaches that governing authorities are instituted by God to punish evil and preserve order. Deliberately manipulating emergency systems to terrorize citizens undermines that God-ordained structure of justice and public safety.

Christians should pray for Justice Barrett, her family, and the law enforcement officers tasked with protecting public officials in an increasingly volatile political environment. Scripture commands believers to pray “for kings and all who are in authority” (1 Timothy 2:2).

At the same time, believers should resist the temptation to answer hatred with hatred. The solution to moral chaos is not more rage, but truth grounded in God’s Word.

Still, Christians should not ignore what is happening around them.

Political extremism, intimidation, and hostility toward biblical values are no longer isolated incidents. The attempted swatting of Amy Coney Barrett’s home is another reminder that America’s cultural division is becoming increasingly dangerous — and that truth, courage, and prayer are needed now more than ever.
