Defunding Planned Parenthood, Border Security: 5 Provisions in the Big Beautiful Bill

The momentum behind the “Big Beautiful Bill” continues to surge in Washington as conservatives rally around what could become one of the most significant legislative victories of the post-Biden era. Backed by President Donald Trump and Senate Republican leadership, the bill—formally titled the American Sovereignty and Values Act—bundles together several key priorities of conservative voters. Among the top-line provisions are the complete defunding of Planned Parenthood, major reinforcements to border security, and protections for religious liberty.

With a Senate vote anticipated as early as next week, the legislation has already passed the House in a near party-line vote. If passed and signed, the bill would deliver on multiple promises Republicans have made to their base for years—especially to Christian conservatives who see the measure as a decisive step toward restoring national morality and lawfulness.

Defunding Planned Parenthood

The most high-profile feature of the bill is the long-anticipated removal of federal funding for Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider. For over a decade, Republican lawmakers have attempted to eliminate taxpayer dollars from flowing to the organization, which receives roughly $500 million annually through Medicaid reimbursements and Title X funds.

“Taxpayers should not be forced to bankroll the destruction of innocent life,” stated Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL), a staunch pro-life advocate and co-sponsor of the bill. “This bill finally aligns our spending priorities with the values of life, family, and faith.”

Pro-life leaders have celebrated the development. Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of SBA Pro-Life America, called it “a watershed moment,” noting the widespread public opposition to taxpayer-funded abortions.

According to a 2023 Marist poll, 60% of Americans oppose using tax dollars to fund abortions—sentiment that is even more pronounced among Christians. With this bill, federal money will be redirected to comprehensive women’s health centers that do not perform abortions.

Border Security Reimagined

Another hallmark of the legislation is its robust border security package, which echoes many of the proposals made by Trump during his presidency. It includes funding to resume construction of the southern border wall, increased support for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and a mandate to deploy National Guard units along key stretches of the U.S.-Mexico border.

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) hailed the measure as a return to national sovereignty. “We cannot be a sovereign nation if we don’t control who enters our borders. This bill puts an end to the chaos at our southern flank and makes clear that law and order are returning.”

The bill also calls for the expansion of expedited deportation policies and ends the so-called “catch and release” policy, which critics argue allowed tens of thousands of illegal immigrants to vanish into American cities with little follow-up.

Ending Gender Ideology in Schools

Section Three of the Big Beautiful Bill takes direct aim at the growing influence of gender ideology in American classrooms. The provision prohibits federal funds from being used to promote or enforce curricula that encourage gender transition in K–12 public schools.

Supporters of the measure argue that it protects children from political indoctrination and upholds parental rights. “What we’re seeing is a state-sponsored assault on innocence,” said Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT). “Schools should be places of learning, not social re-engineering centers.”

The bill also strengthens transparency by requiring schools that receive federal funding to disclose all instructional materials and allow parental opt-outs for content deemed age-inappropriate or ideologically driven.

Religious Liberty Protections

Another significant piece of the bill includes sweeping protections for religious liberty—an issue increasingly under siege in modern America. The legislation prevents the federal government from penalizing individuals, businesses, or institutions for operating in accordance with their sincerely held religious beliefs.

Specifically, it includes protections for Christian business owners, faith-based adoption agencies, and religious schools—many of which have come under legal fire for refusing to affirm LGBT practices or participate in same-sex ceremonies.

Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council praised the section as “a much-needed firewall between faith and federal coercion.” He added, “Christians should not fear government reprisal for simply living out their faith.”

Financial Stewardship and National Debt

Finally, the bill addresses the nation’s bloated debt and unsustainable spending by imposing a cap on non-defense discretionary spending and mandating a balanced budget framework within the next decade. The provision includes audits of foreign aid packages and eliminates funding for climate change initiatives that have delivered little measurable benefit.

“This is about returning sanity to Washington,” said Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH). “We are $34 trillion in debt, and yet we keep funding foreign wars, UN programs, and green boondoggles. This bill prioritizes Americans over global interests.”

Critics of the Biden administration argue that reckless spending on ideological pet projects and international appeasement has weakened the country both financially and morally.

Conservative Unity and Democratic Pushback

While conservatives have largely unified around the Big Beautiful Bill, Senate Democrats have fiercely opposed it. Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) condemned it as “an extremist wishlist,” though efforts to derail the measure have so far failed due to strong GOP discipline and several moderate Democrats appearing open to compromise.

Despite the expected political battle, President Trump has already signaled his eagerness to sign the bill into law. Speaking at a rally in Texas, he declared, “This is the kind of common-sense, pro-American legislation we need. Protecting life, securing our border, and defending faith—what could be more important?”

A Historic Turning Point?

If passed, the Big Beautiful Bill could mark a monumental shift in U.S. domestic policy—particularly for Christian conservatives who’ve long prayed and lobbied for such reforms.

Supporters believe it offers more than just symbolic victories. It represents a legislative reset, where moral clarity and constitutional fidelity finally outweigh political correctness and ideological drift.

With the Senate vote imminent, the eyes of the nation—especially those in the faith and pro-life communities—are fixed firmly on Capitol Hill. For many, this may be the moment they’ve long awaited: a return to biblical values in national governance.
