Marjorie Taylor Greene and DOGE Launch Investigation into Planned Parenthood’s Use of Taxpayer Funds
Washington, D.C. — The House Oversight and Accountability Committee’s Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, known as DOGE, led by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), has launched a formal investigation into Planned Parenthood’s use of federal taxpayer dollars. The inquiry follows mounting concerns that the organization has repeatedly violated federal laws prohibiting the use of government funds for abortion services.
Chairwoman Greene announced the probe on Thursday, stating that preliminary findings suggest a pattern of misuse of federal funds under Title X and Medicaid programs. “The American people should not be forced to subsidize the killing of unborn children, nor should they unknowingly fund an organization that uses loopholes and accounting tricks to do so,” Greene declared in a press release.
The investigation will focus on whether Planned Parenthood affiliates, particularly in states where abortion remains legal post-Dobbs v. Jackson, have unlawfully commingled taxpayer money with funds used to perform abortions. Federal law under the Hyde Amendment explicitly bans federal funding for abortion services except in cases of rape, incest, or when the mother’s life is in danger.
According to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Planned Parenthood received over $670 million in government grants and reimbursements in fiscal year 2022. While Planned Parenthood insists that these funds are used for non-abortion services like cancer screenings and STI treatments, watchdog groups and whistleblowers have long alleged that the organization engages in systemic violations of federal funding restrictions.
Rep. Greene, who chairs the DOGE Subcommittee under House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY), is demanding full transparency. She sent letters to the HHS, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and various Planned Parenthood affiliates requesting documents, financial records, and internal communications related to billing practices and federal reimbursement procedures.
“The Biden administration’s blind eye to how federal dollars are spent by politically favored groups like Planned Parenthood is deeply troubling,” Greene said. “We are finally bringing accountability to an organization that has operated in legal gray areas for far too long.”
Breitbart News reported that the committee’s inquiry will also investigate whether Planned Parenthood violated state laws by continuing abortion referrals in jurisdictions with restrictive policies and how much federal money continued to flow into those operations.
Chairman Comer expressed full support for Greene’s efforts. “We are committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the proper use of taxpayer money. This is not a partisan issue — it’s about transparency and accountability.”
Conservative lawmakers and advocacy organizations have praised the investigation, seeing it as a long-overdue check on an organization that has been politically shielded for decades. “Planned Parenthood is not above the law,” said Lila Rose, president of Live Action. “They’ve been caught on video admitting to selling fetal body parts, engaging in Medicaid fraud, and covering up abuse — yet they keep getting government money. This investigation is necessary and overdue.”
Critics of the investigation, primarily Democrat members of Congress and abortion-rights advocates, have claimed that the probe is politically motivated. However, Greene dismissed these claims. “This isn’t about politics — it’s about protecting American taxpayers from being complicit in ending human life.”
The DOGE committee has signaled it may issue subpoenas if the organizations and agencies involved fail to comply. Greene made clear that the committee intends to pursue every legal avenue available. “If Planned Parenthood and the Biden administration stonewall us, they should be ready for a legal battle. We will not back down.”
Initial evidence suggests that certain Planned Parenthood branches may be billing Medicaid for services that indirectly support abortion infrastructure, such as facility upkeep or staff salaries at abortion-performing locations. This type of financial co-mingling is forbidden under the Hyde Amendment and other regulatory guidelines.
The investigation may also take into account the role of nonprofit accounting practices and how Planned Parenthood categorizes indirect costs. Greene’s office stated that the probe will consider whether the organization has misled federal agencies or withheld key documentation in past audits.
Public support for federal funding of abortion is waning. A recent Gallup poll indicated that only 35% of Americans support the use of taxpayer dollars for abortion procedures, while 60% oppose it. This trend strengthens Greene’s case and may bolster future legislative efforts to fully defund Planned Parenthood.
Several House Republicans have already introduced bills to eliminate Title X and Medicaid funds from being routed to organizations that perform abortions, even in a separate wing or entity. Greene hinted that findings from this investigation may serve as the basis for broader legislative reforms in the next congressional session.
“This is only the beginning,” Greene stated. “If we find what we expect to find — blatant disregard for federal law — we will move to defund and dismantle this corrupt machine piece by piece.”
As the probe unfolds, it is expected to become a major flashpoint in the ongoing debate over abortion rights, government spending, and executive overreach. Conservatives are likely to seize the opportunity to highlight the Biden administration’s failure to enforce legal safeguards while reasserting the moral and constitutional grounds for protecting life.
For now, all eyes are on DOGE and Rep. Greene as the investigation gains momentum and the political stakes continue to rise.
