Fox News reported that an illegal immigrant Ecuadorian is in NYPD custody after a broad daylight sex attack in which police said a machete-wielding man approached two 13-year-olds, one a boy and one a girl, tied them together by the wrists and raped the girl at a popular park in Queens, according to sources.
Christian Geovanny Inga-Landi, a 25-year-old from Ecuador, entered the country illegally in 2021 near Eagle Pass, Texas, with his three-year-old child, NYPD leaders revealed during a news briefing Tuesday.
After police released surveillance video showing him near the scene of the crime, tips started pouring in, police said. Ultimately, a group of at least 10 neighbors swarmed him and held him until police arrived around 1 a.m. Tuesday.
“Everybody knew who we were looking for,” said Chief Joseph Kenny. “We had tips coming in actually naming the perpetrator. They knew who he was. They saw him out on the street.”
“We saw from bodycam video at least 10 neighborhood people trying to do the right thing,” he added.
Inga-Landi was treated for minor injuries after police said he tried to fight the good Samaritans, who bound his legs with a belt to keep him from running away.
Reacting to the horrific attack, former President Trump said it was “unthinkable” and “should never have happened.”
“These are Biden migrants,” Trump told Fox News Digital. “They are flooding our country. They are flooding our cities and states.”
“It will get worse—far worse—unless I am elected president,” Trump continued. “This is just the beginning. They have come in from all over the world. They have come in from jails. They have come in from mental institutions and many terrorists have come into our country.”
He added, “We are a dumping ground for the world. This is just the beginning.”
According to The Post Millenial, the NYPD had asked the public for help identifying the man, offering a $10,00 reward for information leading to his arrest. The New York Post detailed that a couple of good Samaritans brought him down to the floor while the suspect was over at a store after seeing him on wanted posters.
“He came in, we went to buy something,” Flores told the outlet. “I saw what he was trying to do, he looked back at me. I waited for him to come out the store and dragged him to the floor. A couple people helped me.”
Investigators said that the two young teens were out in a field in Kissena Park at around 3 pm Thursday, just after school was let out. Investigators said that a curly-haired man approached them and demanded that they follow him into the woods of the park and when they refused, he allegedly pulled out a “large machete-style knife” and forced them into an isolated area. He bound their wrists with a shoelace.
They returned to school and told administrators what had happened after the attack.
